    Description

    Tohono O’Odham  LADY Horsehair Basket Sculpture Art DONNA MENDEZ 2.1 Inches High
    This is a piece of art:  the lady is made from basketry shapes, has a basket on her head, and is holding two more baskets; even the angled swoosh of her long hair is artistic.  Measures approximately 2.1 inches high.  Obviously old original price of 0, since her baskets now sell for far more than that.  Dime is for size reference.
    After winning first place and best in show at a basket gathering at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, the incredible detail of Donna Mendez’s work led to her being one of five artists selected for the 2001 Smithsonian Native Artists Fellowship. Now the preservation and continuation of the craft is one of Mendez’s top priorities.
