    Description

Being offered is a vintage Papago Indian, hand crafted and woven coiled large basket vase or jar.
The tribe is located in Arizona.
This basket is craft from yucca, devil’s claw, and bear brass as the foundation.
The basket shows minor age and wearing in places and shows an age-related patina to the straw.
This is not unusually from exposure to light over the decades.
There is soiling and dust in places.
The weave is tight and intact so no loosening of the coiling.
There is a little separation of the staves in places but this is due to age and normal wearing.
The basket is in nice shape for its age.
    The basket is approx.
5 7/8" tall by 7" wide at its widest portion, and the top opening is approx. 4 1/8" wide
    .
The Tohono O’odham, as they are known today, or “Papago” people as they were called by the Spanish, live in the Sonoran desert country of southwest Arizona.
The ancient name they called themselves was “Tohono Aw-aw-tam”, or the Desert People.
