    Description

Woven Fishing Basket From Gesgapegiag MicMac Reservation
I purchased this basket in 1985 on the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec on the MicMac Reservation in Maria.  Never used for fishing, my family typically stored magazines in it.  A few of the slats show some damage, and there is some staining on the bottom of the basket (see photos).  However, the basket was sturdily made and has held up quite well.  I have always liked the way the leather was attached as well as the use of an eye hook for a closure (see photos).
The basket is 12" tall, 14" wide and 10" deep (at its widest).
