    Description

    This Hand Made, oval shaped World War 1 Brooch is intricately carved with the years, 1914 and 1916 with the word, "War" in the center.  The openwork design has been carefully carved and is symmetrical, with a pinwheel or starburst pattern.  It seems that it would have been carved between the dates of July 1914 when the war started and November 1918 when the war ended.   It measures 1-1/2' wide and 1-1/4' high and has a scalloped edge.
    We aren't sure if this Pin is American or European or a POW / Prisoner of War carving.  It is made of carved bovine bone.  On the back there is a simple metal straight stem that rests in an open "C" style clasp.
